Now it's time to compare the film and the book (both of which you will have carefully viewed & read). Read through the instructions below, decide what format you want to use to present your Final Exam, and respond to the question in our Google Classroom by the Step 5 deadline.
Task:
Create an analytical project utilizing critical analysis as well as comparison/contrast methods. Your judgment of the overall merits of the novel and the film can be included, but this should not be the focus of your analysis. Analyze the overall success of the film adaptation.
Consider how the movie differs from the novel, if at all; how the director and actors chose to represent its characters and key issues; and what the movie adaptation suggests about its audience and the culture at the time and place it was adapted (vs. the date of the novel’s publication). Is the screen-play faithful to the original text? Do the filmmakers complicate or complement the story line through the use of special effects, flashbacks, recurring image motifs, or other visual or sound techniques?
You may choose to compare the stories (which are often drastically edited in the films), the imagery of the author’s words with the cinematography of the film, the sensory details of the book with the sound design of the film, and your personal reaction to the tone/mood of each, as well.
